Breathwork Classes
The breath is everything. It regulates our very life force. Because we can breathe consciously or unconsciously, it is our access to the systems that determine how we feel—a way to self regulate. When we change our breathing pattern, we send a message to our body in its own language, and our body responds, offering energy, release, and self awareness. This strengthens mind-body connection, with a host of benefits documented by research and testimonials.
Neurodynamic Breathwork®
$40
In Neurodynamic Breathwork®, we use deepened mouth breathing to start this process, raising oxygen levels, lowering carbon dioxide, and alkalizing the blood. This shifts the body into release mode, and the awareness out of the brain’s linear default mode network and toward these autonomic systems, to “make the unconscious conscious” (Jung and Freud 1912).
A scientifically crafted music playlist encourages the flow of emotion and provides a container for the inner journey. The effects resemble psychedelics, with the key difference that you are in control of the experience through the breathing pattern. The process is non directive, aimed at awakening your own Inner Guiding Intelligence, your psychological immune system, the part of you that knows what you need and is ready to release whatever is no longer serving you.
This is inspired by Czech psychiatrist Stanislav Grof’s Holotropic Breathwork and extensive research of expanded states of consciousness and transpersonal psychology (Grof 1988).
Breathe Into It - Pranayam & More
$40
In this course we explore a variety of techniques to deepen our awareness of the breath and work with it more actively. These techniques are directive, and have a clearing, balancing, and energizing effect. Many of these are derived from branches of yoga.
In pranayam and kriya yoga, we direct the breath to balance the autonomic nervous system, energize the body, regulate its systems and strengthen mind-body connection. This is done through nostril breathing, timing and holding the breath and coordinating it with sound and movement.
Thus we synchronize the hemispheres of the brain and the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and stimulate the production of beneficial immune chemicals such as nitric oxide, and the release of carbon dioxide and other wastes and toxins. This deepens awareness of the body’s processes and its connection to similar processes in the psyche.
We also explore simple tools for emotion regulation, self soothing, sleep, focus, meditation, and more. Through directing the breath we learn about ourselves.
